I chose to join Hilti 9 years ago because of the job contents it advertised in one of the local job portal. The job was attractive because it was offering the opportunity to work in the global team. After these years in Hilti, I’m still amazed to see how Hilti, a construction solution company embraces the latest technology and empowers the IT specialists around the globe to be the enabler in different Hilti businesses. In Hilti, the IT team is more than just a cost-centre, it is also being recognized as one of the main competencies of this organization. I’m currently leading a multi-disciplinary IT Infrastructure team located in Malaysia. Without the help from the supportive mentors and superiors, I wouldn’t have come this far. One of the greatest challenge for me in Hilti was that I was entrusted to build up a completely new team from scratch. It took me six months to get my first team member hired. The one thing I can feel strongly at Hilti is that we are a people centric company. People development is deeply rooted in Hilti culture and it is not just a HR marketing slogan.

Before even starting at Hilti, I was excited about their people and digitization, which I’d got to know through their relations with my university in Augsburg. I joined the company as IT project manager, responsible for the requirements, development, testing and rollout of our new global software for some 10,000 account managers and field engineers. It was quite a challenge for me because, despite having a relevant PhD, I wasn’t used to managing projects. However, with all the great coaching and support from colleagues that you get at Hilti, I managed to learn quickly and stay on top of things.
Alongside the software rollout, I ran another project developing strategy for our customer relationship management (CRM) environment. I then got the opportunity to lead the team in implementing this strategy. I enjoyed being team lead as it gave me the chance to actively support Hilti´s global business strategy while also working with my team on their personal development. However the stretch between people development and driving the direction for the software products in my responsibility was always a challenge. In my current role as Product Owner, I love the chance to focus fully on turning business strategies into reality having even more decision power on both content and priorities.
I like about IT at Hilti our involvement and input in bigger business discussions – like business benefits and processes – as it brings us closer to the end user of our solutions. The diverse range of people at Hilti, who are all very smart, friendly and eager to work as a team immensely motivates me to go to work every day. I truly appreciate how my individual needs are respected at Hilti - which also enables me to work on a part-time basis (80%), enabling me to spend more time with my family and allowing my wife to progress her career.

With a blink of an eye, I am soon completing my 10 years with Hilti. I must say – What a journey! Looking back, I was thrilled because I can work in an innovative global multitalented company. I am proud that I chose the right company to jumpstart my career. In the first few years, I got the chance to work alongside with many talented colleagues from all around the world to introduce a new cloud-based ERP system to our small and medium market organizations. With my role, I was able to travel to more than 20 different countries to understand the market organizations’ needs and solve their problems.
My first-time manager experience in 2014 has led me with full of challenges. In that role, I got the experience on leading people and understand our shaping the next generation ERP solutions. That has ignited my passion on understanding people behaviours and needs. With the support from my team and peers as well as internal leadership training, I was able to perform and demonstrate it.
In 2019, I got the opportunity to relocate to Texas, USA and took a role that strengthen the customer relationship through seamless digital buying process. It is exciting to work with colleagues and partners on shaping the digital commerce space. At the same time, I learned more about global leadership, knowing how to operate in a different culture, legal and economic systems.
